How Super Cropping Cannabis Gives You Bumper Yields

What Is SuperCropping | Everything You Need To Know | The Seed Fair

When looking for ways to get better yields, many growers consider super cropping cannabis plants. This training technique aids crop growth and produces bigger buds.

Whether you’re a newbie or an experienced cultivator, don’t rush into using the super cropping method for your marijuana plants. The wrong application of this strategy can hamper your harvest.

Continue reading to discover the ins and outs of super cropping weed plants and how to reap the most benefits from this technique.

Let’s dive in.

What is super cropping?

Super cropping refers to a high-stress training (HST) method that exerts intense pressure on marijuana crops and makes them grow in the desired way. When done correctly, this technique causes selective and minor damage to the plant’s tissues.

The concept of super cropping focuses on deliberately tweaking, bending, or breaking weed stems to promote lateral growth. This tactic enables the plants to recover from stress and become bigger and stronger.

Marijuana crops normally grow vertically and may become too tall, especially if cultivated indoors. Super cropping your plants encourages them to sprout horizontally and prevents them from stretching excessively.

When this training method stresses cannabis crops, they respond by activating their defense mechanisms. This process forces the plants to absorb more nutrients and allows them to cope with the challenges. After a few weeks, these activities lead to significant growth.

Since cannabis super cropping changes the growth trajectory of plants, it makes them produce higher yields. The technique also enhances light distribution in your grow space, promotes the production of more buds, and improves airflow.

What do you need to begin super cropping cannabis?

One of the biggest advantages of marijuana super cropping is that it requires no expensive, high-tech equipment. Your fingers are the most crucial super cropper tool for applying this technique.

The weed growing supplies you may need during or after super cropping include:

  • Duct tape
  • Garden stakes
  • String or zip ties

Buy these tools at a garden center or home improvement store near you.

The best time to implement super cropping

Timing is a critical factor for super cropping marijuana plants. The best time to implement this technique is during the vegetative stage, when the crops are still bendable.

During this phase, weed plants use the available resources to grow taller and create more branches, nodes, and leaves. The stems also become thicker as the crops prepare for the flowering stage.

Wait until the plants are in the late vegetative phase before super cropping them. We recommend applying this technique in the last 3–7 days before the blooming stage. It’s advisable for rookies to use the method once only.

Are you an experienced grower that prefers super cropping weed plants more than once in the vegetative stage? Start the technique 2–3 weeks before flowering and repeat it later.

Some seasoned cultivators super crop plants in the pre-flowering phase before they become rigid. Be careful, or you could waste your resources on restoring a broken branch during flowering. The wrong application of the method may also cause irreversible problems.

Regardless of your experience level, leave at least seven days between each super cropping session. This resting period allows your crop to recover from the stress. It also impacts how your plants respond to training and allows them to produce a bumper harvest.

How to super crop your weed for the best results

Although super cropping may look like an easy technique, it requires careful implementation. Any mistake can be costly for your plants and yields. Follow the steps below to use this method effectively.

Assess the condition of your weed plants

Super cropping is only ideal for healthy cannabis plants. If your crops face pest infestations, health problems, or nutrient deficiencies, they’re under intense pressure. The application of a stress-based training technique may cause excess and unrecoverable shock.

Evaluate the well-being of your marijuana plants and choose only healthy ones for super cropping. If there’s any doubt, let an expert assess the crops or avoid the technique completely.

Choose suitable branches

After finding healthy plants, select the right branches for super cropping. Choose mature branches that are taller than others. Avoid old, woody ones, as they may not respond properly to this training technique.

Super crop the branches

Begin the training with the bottom of the tallest branch. Hold it with your thumb, fore, and index fingers, and then squeeze the plant carefully. Bend it in the desired direction. Make sure you don’t use your fingernails to pinch it during the process.

As you take this step, you manipulate the branch’s core to go in the direction you like. Be gentle with everything you do during this stage to prevent severe damage to your cannabis plant.

Move up the chosen branch by a few centimeters and repeat the method. Don’t crop higher than two or three nodes from the branch’s tip. When the branch is leaning in the preferred direction, use zip ties or strings to bind it at the crop site.

Repeat the super cropping process for other healthy cannabis branches in your grow tent.

Fixing broken branches

When super cropping cannabis branches, some stems may snap. This problem is common among inexperienced growers who make certain mistakes during training. Use duct tape to fix this issue as soon as you notice it.

Tie the duct tape around the broken area to make a temporary bandage. Consider tying down outdoor plants if the fixed branches still don’t stand well. Otherwise, use the tape to tie it to a nearby branch. If you have garden stakes, add them to the stem to aid recovery.

Wait for at least one week before removing the tape. While recovering, your weed plant may have large knots in the snapped areas. It’s no cause for alarm, as the structures offer a few benefits to the healing crop.

Combining super cropping with low-stress training techniques

Do you want a bumper harvest? Combine super cropping with low-stress training to manage the shape and height of your cannabis crops.

Low-stress training (LST) ensures a marijuana plant has a flattened canopy and receives more light, which increases the number of bud sites. This technique requires you to bend and bind certain branches without putting too much pressure on them.

Cannabis plants tend to adapt quickly and favorably to low-stress training, as it’s easy for them to cope with it. This method ensures the even distribution of nutrients and the growth hormone.

Like super cropping, LST is ideal during the vegetative stage when the crops are flexible and respond well to manipulation. The combination of low-stress training and super cropping increases the vegetative stage by about four weeks.

When combining these methods, remember that both stress your weed crops. Have a well-planned schedule for the training and give your plants ample time to recover from one technique before applying another.

If your cannabis plants show any sign of weakness after using a technique, skip the next one to avoid damaging them.

Although combining these two methods promotes bigger yields, it has some disadvantages. Your plants may experience stunted growth or death if you apply the techniques incorrectly. They may also become hermaphrodites due to unplanned pollination.

Master the two cannabis training strategies and use them properly to promote cannabis growth and optimize harvests.

Maximizing your marijuana harvest with super cropping

Super cropping is an effective way to make your cannabis crops produce bigger and more potent buds, but it requires expertise.

Understand what this technique involves and how to use it before applying it to your crops. When super cropping cannabis plants, be patient and careful. Learn the steps and don’t rush through them.

Regardless of the training technique you use, the quality of your marijuana seeds determines your harvest. Low-quality seeds can only produce undesirable plants with poor yields.
